The North Australia and Rangelands Fire Information (NAFI) Website Background \ The North Australia and Rangelands Fire Information (NAFI) Website Introduction: Could give a bit of an overview of NAFI emphasising a few points: - source of the NAFI fire scar maps – only maps that give you reliable fire history across the landscape - now also a place you can view Landsat images of fire scars - widely used so vital communication tool - site is set up for land managers (not emergency services) people like you guys – so feedback welcome Most people use it largely at this time of year to check for and follow wildfires but can be used throughout fire season to help with the following operations: - planning your strategic early dry season burning - implementing the EDS burning - checking progress - monitoring and responding to wildfires - reporting on progress Today we’ll go through some of the basics of NAFI in the morning covering some of the tools you can use for these operations – and looking at some tools you may not know much about but which may be pretty useful. Then there will be a lunch courtesy of Natural Carbon and Chef Killin After lunch we’ll take a look at the Landsat images you can download from NAFI – higher resolution more detail can be really useful for operational fire management Then we’ll take a lok at how you can look at NAFI maps on Google Earth and follow up on any requests for looking at other tools…

The Extension of NAFI Fire Scar Mapping Background \ The Extension of NAFI Fire Scar Mapping Introduction: Could give a bit of an overview of NAFI emphasising a few points: - source of the NAFI fire scar maps – only maps that give you reliable fire history across the landscape - now also a place you can view Landsat images of fire scars - widely used so vital communication tool - site is set up for land managers (not emergency services) people like you guys – so feedback welcome Most people use it largely at this time of year to check for and follow wildfires but can be used throughout fire season to help with the following operations: - planning your strategic early dry season burning - implementing the EDS burning - checking progress - monitoring and responding to wildfires - reporting on progress Today we’ll go through some of the basics of NAFI in the morning covering some of the tools you can use for these operations – and looking at some tools you may not know much about but which may be pretty useful.
