Communicating through dots and dashes Morse Code Communicating through dots and dashes

What is Morse code? Morse code is a method of communication that relies on the transmitting of an alphabet constructed from dots and dashes.

How is Morse code transmitted? electrical pulses along a telegraph wire an audio tone as a radio signal with short and long pulses or tones as a mechanical or visual signal e.g. a flashing light.

Who invented Morse code? Samual Morse invented Morse Code: 1837 - Morse invented the electrical telegraph 1836 - Morse finished his first working sample of the telegraph. 1838 - Morse changed the telegraphic symbols, from a telegraphic dictionary with number code to a code for each letter. 1844 - Morse sent the telegraph message "What hath God wrought" Washington, D.C. to his assistant, in Baltimore, Maryland.

How is Morse code used? 1890’s - Early radio communications Navigational radio beacons Continuous wave amateur radio operators.

How has Morse code evolved? 1848 - changes to eleven of the letters, was developed in Germany and eventually adopted as the worldwide standard as "International Morse". The original code is now used only the United States and has became known as Railroad or American Morse code.
