Two Sunday to sharpen our focus – Last Sunday awesome job by Drew – taking us to the ministry of Jesus and his disciples and helping us to see how some amazing things can happen in the life of a person in the context of a small group…. This week build on that zoom down specifically to families, children and students…

and the first one there wins. It’s a race to the heart of a child… Always a sober moment when I visit the Upward Coaches training and I hear Carlton equipping the coaches…this quote is used in Upward coaches training and the first one there wins. Caz McCaslin President, Upward Sports

Deuteronomy 6:4-7 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Crisis National Moving into the promised land … Trusted leader stepping down… Facing significant danger … Tell the story of the nation of Israel – coming out of Egyptian bondage into the promised land . Creative example TO 52 Canaan is a dark place – we need to shelter our children – let’s withdraw from the culture. (Underestimate the power of God) The Canaan is a wonderful place – let’s blend in and go with the flow. (Underestimate the influence of sin) Moses avoids both unhealthy extremes!! He give instructions that take the corruption and influence of sin seriously AND has a totally confident expectation that the next generation CAN be protected and grow strong even in a dangerous environment. Moses is saying: It really doesn’t matter what our kids know if they don’t know what really matters. TO 54 It will be heartbreaking if your children enjoy the benefits and prosperity of a better lifestyle, live in a land flowing with milk and honey, and become experientially rich, but never really know God. The shift from trusting stuff to trusting God is gradual, but when it happens everything hangs in the balance. … the temporary has a way of crowing out the eternal… Stay focused. Don’t forget who your God is. TO 54 Imagine what it was like to be a parent or grandparent at that time.
