Task 4: Presentation ADAD lvl 4 Made by Megan Wickham , Yiying Sui and Ashley Spasojevic Group F

Introduction We will be discussing the most attractive features in Malta during the timeframe of the 18th century to the 1940s. We will be discussing: The Luzzus, The Karrozin The Maltese tiles called Madum ta’ Malta. The Maltese traditional buses with the typography,

The Luzzu The Luzzu is the most attractive feature in Malta all year around because of its sturdiness. They are used by fishermen and locals to give passengers rides around the waters.

It is derived from the Pheonician boat design , where it was smaller and with sails. Nowadays there are far more larger and they have motors put into them.

Kajjiks The Kajjik is a smaller boat which is usually squared on one side or both. It keeps the same colour scheme and both the Luzzus and the Kajjiks are painted every few years and the exact same way as before due to superstitions and this skill is passed down in generations and the eye of Osiris/Horus is painted aswell to have protection from evil.

Karozzin Karrozzin also known as Traditional Maltese Carriage. nowadays they are used for sightseeing, is still used in ceremonies such as funerals, tourist attraction or just for hobby. However, they were the only source of transport before the Industrial Revolution. They were developed around fifteenth century and dates to the mid-nineteenth century.[

Chinese horse carriage One example of Horse Carriage from China. Unlike the Maltese one it has only two huge wheels and the horse balances it. The carriage has a simpler tent shaped (the carriage is normally contains less detail if it is owned to the lower class family but the upper-class will have a larger carriage with extraordinary wood carvings in to them). Some can be found in museums up to this day or in rare cases it may passed down to through the family as a treasure what their ancestor had once used on this land.

Hansom Cab Hansom cab was most commonly used during the Victorian era as it was the only source of transport during that time (before the Machineries era arrived.) it was the most common cab used during the period of 1837-1901. The style of wheels used are very alike to the karozzin however it has only 2 large wheels at the back. the hansom cab had a carriage which is made in a more durable material, more closure however the driver seats at the very back of the carriage unlike the karozzin which is placed in front.

Nowadays the gaming industry attracts a lot of people with the concept and game art. In mine craft they developed a mod to install a horse carriage. Another example is this carriage from assassin’s creed, this type of carriage is known as The Clarence.

Tiles The Maltese Tiles also known as Madum ta’ Malta is a traditional type of tiles that has been existed in Malta for over 300 years. The design of the tiles are usually inspired from decorative ornament and geometric patterns that are often painted with neutral colours.

Moroccan Tiles Moroccan tiles has a cool toned color which is quite common. It consists of geometric patterns and barely have any organic lines. The overlapping of the lines create different patterns yet equal in size and shape. Over lapping lines are usually white coated for a better contrast. This design give off a similar look like the kaleidoscope. However, the kaleidoscope gives off a variety of color.

William Morris’ design The patterns William Morris used to create were largely based on ornaments especially in tiles. Most works that has been involved of using blue colors. He may be influenced by Ottoman Empire. His designs are decorative and doesn’t involved geometric patterns. However not all his designs were the same, he modifies the designs in different periods.

Maltese traditional buses The first Maltese traditional bus was established in 1931. Maltese men had bought the old British army vehicles after WW2 and back then when they were still used they had Hand painted typography to represented the village names.

History of Maltese buses. The old Maltese buses were very iconic in Malta and was a means of public transport from 1931 and 2011, then placed with the new Arriva buses, The buses were had a lot of character and were very individual on the interior and exterior, being decorated with typography

Typography Not only are there traditional typography on Maltese buses also on Construction trucks, old stone quarry and farmer’s carts (karrettun) ,horse-drawn (karozzin) and horse- racing carriages (karru tat-tlielaq)

It has a Baroque and Art Nouveau style

Conclusion Throughout this research during the time frame of 1800-1940s even though different countries have their own styles in design it is somehow its influential to each other and its shown through many particular features like the ones mentioned. It’s interesting to see how people are dedicated to their work to restore such beautiful pieces and that it is passed down in generations Hopefully it continues to develop and keep its traditional route The End.
