8 Typical printed research monograph achieves more than 60% of its life-time distribution within the first year of publication. Print-on-demand production enables unlimited availability as printed editions can be purchased at any time, driving continued use of the book. The Print Scenario

9 SpringerLink Total Usage: SpringerLink Usage: Downloads: Journals: +16% to 127 million eBooks: +9% to 61 million Usage up 13% to 187 million article/chapter downloads in 2010! The Digital Environment

10 In 2010…  1,355 chapter downloads on average for every book published in 2007  1,451 average downloads for every book published in 2008  1,565 average downloads for every book published in 2009  1,085 average downloads for every book published in 2010* * Books are added during the course of the year; some have not been online for the full year. The Digital Environment Author’s benefit: more and more users are turning to eBooks! Most academic libraries prefer purchasing eBook collections. Also non-academic organizations move to using eBooks, too.  Usage will continue to increase!

11 How online usage adds to print sales Distribution of Print Copies (units sold) Usage of an eBook (downloads) Sales of print books rapidly decline after the first year of publication yet downloads of eBooks remain high! Readership is increased (and growing) with eBooks!

12 How Every Researcher Can Check Usage Realtime.Springer.com

Google eBookstore, Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble and many other partners sell Springer eBooks New Book Alert – 253,000 subscribers Springer News to booksellers and librarians with all forthcoming titles Promotional Flyer for Each Book in PDF format Book reviews
