Pedestal Confinement and Stability in JET-ILW ELMy H-mode Scenarios High bN and low neutral recycling are necessary for good pedestal performance  pedestals consistent with P-B paradigm In conditions of high neutral recycling, pedestals are found in stable region of a-j diagram  additional physics is required to explain the onset of the ELM instability Beneficial effect of N2 seeding in high d JET-ILW H-modes: increases Te,PED, but underlying physics mechanism not yet understood  role of low Z impurities and/or SOL physics in pedestal stability needs to be addressed in pedestal models
