Georgian Technical University (GTU) is a modern, educational institution oriented towards innovative change and research. GTU traditionally is not only the leading engineering higher school but also a powerful scientific center.

GTU LOCATION Georgian Technical University is located in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia. Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan.

GTU HISTORY GTU has existed in Tbilisi under different names since 1922; From 1936 it was the Georgian Industrial Institute; From 1948 it was the Georgian Politechnical Institute. 1985-1987- Institute took first place in the USSR higher educational institutions and became the largest higher educational institution in the Caucasian region for its students (40 000) and academic staff (5000). 1990- it was named Georgian Technical University. 2001-GTU became a full member of the European University Association (EUA). 2005-GTU joined Bologna process and introduced 60 ECTS credits.

  GTU consists of 8 faculties that are home to 28 departments and contains of 14 research institutes and 22 scientific centers. At the moment there are more than 17000 students studying on 76 specialties and 150 specializations, which are served by 1270 professors and 500 technical staff.

Faculties of Georgian Technical University GTU offers a challenging intellectual environment in different fields of study that are distributed among 8 faculties. These faculties are: Faculty of Civil Engineering; Faculty of Power Engineering and Telecommunication; Faculty of Mining and Geology; Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy; Faculty of Architecture, Urbanistic and Design; Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems; Faculty of Transportation and Mechanical Engineering; Business Engineering Faculty.

Educational programs of GTU GTU is implementing the following educational programmes: Bachelor`s Degree Program - 240 ECTS Master`s Degree Program - 120 ECTS Doctoral Program - 150 ECTS

Scientific activity at GTU Besides of educational activity the Georgian Technical University is also a powerful scientific organization, where 13 scientific institutes and 21 scientific centers are performed scientific-research works in such important fields as: information technologies, cybernetics and automatic systems, metallurgy and chemical technologies, nanotechnologies, sensors and sensory systems engineering, biotechnology, machine building, civil engineering and architect, communications, power engineering, transport, mining and geology, etc.

GTU Central Scientific Library The central scientific library of GTU was founded in 1922. Some unique publications (IX-XX cc) are stored only here. It’s one of the largest libraries in Georgia. Library offers a multitude of titles relevant to every academic discipline as well as hosts electronic resources and databases. The Library is the perfect place to conduct research, study or relax in a quiet, enriching environment.

GTU Coordinator/Partner of European Projects GTU has firmly established itself in the Western educational arena due to a series of successful international research projects and scientific programs carried out in compliance with modern standards of wide-scale training at every stage of education. GTU scientific activity is funded by the local and international scientific organizations.
