The Acts of the Apostles Acts 8 The Persecuted Preach Christ Acts 8:1-4 “And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles …They therefore that were scattered abroad, went about preaching the word.” Sunday – January 29, 2017 Many of the slides used in this presentation are prepared by Joe Price and are used and adapted with his permission.

Acts 8 The Gospel in Samaria, 8:5-13, 25 (1:8). Preaching Christ Saves Samaritans And Simon, Acts 8:5-25. Acts 8 The Gospel in Samaria, 8:5-13, 25 (1:8). The Holy Spirit and Conversion.  Miracles confirmed the word, they did not save the lost. Hebrews 2:1-4  Baptism “in the name of the Jesus” is not Holy Spirit baptism.

Acts 8 The Gospel in Samaria, 8:5-13, 25 (1:8). Preaching Christ Saves Samaritans And Simon, Acts 8:5-25. Acts 8 The Gospel in Samaria, 8:5-13, 25 (1:8). The Holy Spirit and Conversion. Gift of the Spirit is not a personal indwelling of the Spirit, Acts 2:38; 8:14-16 (3:19). Receiving the word of God is equivalent to being “baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus”, 8:14, 16. Miraculous gifts of the Spirit only obtained from the apostles, Acts 8:14-15, 17. Needed to secure the faith of the new Christians.

Acts 8 Preaching Christ Saves An Ethiopian, Acts 8:26-40. God brought the Sinner into Contact with the Word of Christ, 8:26, 34-35. cf. 1 Timothy 4:16 Good Things that did not Save the Ethiopian. He was a devoutly religious man, 8:27 (Acts 10:2; 11:14). Merely reading Scripture, 8:28 (didn’t understand them, 8:31). Wanting to understand the Scriptures, 8:30-31. Talking about the Scriptures and asking questions,  8:32-34. Belief alone, Acts 8:36-37.
