Modern Foreign Languages Children will be taught Spanish at Denmead Junior School by Miss Luxton

Timetable Early morning tasks Guided reading Maths express Maths Break * English Lunch Handwriting/spelling Topic Assembly Music on Monday afternoon. PE on Tuesday with CM Sports and Friday with class teacher.

Home Learning Reading School – read at least weekly in guided reading sessions Home expectation is to read at least 5 times a week for 15 minutes At least some sessions with an adult Ask questions about the book Read a variety of different genres – BugClub Record what they have read with a short comment in the Reading Record Diaries should be signed by parents weekly Prizes can be won for regular reading (raffle tickets) Watch out for holiday reading challenges

Home Learning Spellings School – Activities to learn new spelling rules Home – Weekly spellings will be linked to a spelling rule, topic vocabulary or key, high frequency words for some pupils Set on Friday and tested the following Thursday or Friday Spellings to be written in sentences to show they understand the meaning of the word. Also try to use ambitious sentence construction Encourage the use of new vocabulary in conversations Strategies to help learning: Flash cards Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check Rainbow writing Mnemonics

Home Learning Maths Maths homework will be to learn times tables and associated division facts up to 12 x 12 off by heart. This is an essential skill that makes a huge difference to the speed and accuracy of calculations Tables will be set weekly and tested on a Thursday or Friday Pupils who are still learning number bonds for all numbers to numbers to 10, 20 and bonds to 100 should be working on these

Home Learning Topic Each term there will be a choice of longer extended pieces of work linked to the termly topic Each half term 2 pieces will be completed A deadline will be given of roughly 3 weeks per piece of learning Pupils will be given choices in how their learning is presented This term the first due in date is Friday 30th September and the 2nd is due in on the 14th October

Useful Information Lunchtime home learning club - opportunity for some to catch up/get extra support with their home learning if needed Healthy eating initiative at breaktime - snacks to be brought into the classroom and not taken out of lunchbox PE kit - correct one please Restorative justice - helping children to resolve friendship issues Open door policy

Adult Help We welcome adults to come and help in school with a wide range of activities including: Trips Special events Reading - Any helpers - e.g. to support reading in that first slot 8.45-10? Anyone interested, please contact the office. You will need to be DBS checked and undergo training as appropriate.
