Territory Mapper Working with Accounts Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

The Source File The file used in this example is CT Sales Reps.xls It is distributed with Territory Mapper, in the Tutorial directory. C:\Program Files\TerritoryMapper\Tutorial Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Accounts need a unique ID A unique ID is required for each line item to be displayed. Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Link by ZIP Code Link to ZIP Code is possible, but not recommended. Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Link by Latitude/Longitude Link to Latitude and Longitude is the preferred method. Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Lat/Long verse ZIP Code Linking to latitude and longitude decimal coordinates is the preferred method because the symbol will appear in the precise location on the map. Linking to ZIP Codes is functional, but with limitations. The symbols will be placed in the centroid of the ZIP Code polygon. If multiple symbols are to be drawn in the same polygon, they will be drawn over each other. When multiple locations in the same ZIP Code occur, it is recommended that latitude and longitude decimal coordinates be used. An alternative for multiple locations in one ZIP is to link to your data using Custom Locations. Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

How to get Lat/Long coordinates Addresses can be converted to latitude and longitude decimal coordinates. TTG, Incorporated offers this service to it’s clients, charging by the record. Web based services offer this service for bulk conversions. Search for “address conversion to lat long” at your favorite search engine for ideas. Single address conversions can be accomplished easily over the Web. Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Linking to your file Use the Link Maintenance tool to link your data file to the map document. Use “Map Layer Link” to link accounts by ZIP Code, State, or other layer in the map. Use “Latitude / Longitude Link” to link accounts that have been converted to lat/long coordinates. OR . . . Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Linking to your file “Map Layer Link” method links ZIP Codes in your source file to the ZIP Code layer in Territory Mapper “Lat / Long Link” method links to the latitude and longitude decimal coordinates Click Add Data Source Link to locate and open your source file Choose a method Both methods require using the unique ID Field Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

Accounts should display on the map If all goes well . . . Accounts should display on the map Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated

If not . . . Note that for this example, the symbol for each account has been changed, using Account Rules, from a diamond to a person. Verify that “Show unassigned units” is turned on under the View menu. This setting for unassigned units affects accounts as well as map units. In the Hierarchy tab, click the “All On” button at the bottom of the panel. Verify in the Browser tool that your data shows up correctly. If a problem exists with unique IDs, they will not appear correctly or at all. Verify that latitude and longitude coordinates are not switched. Open Account Rules and verify the default setting for Display is Yes. If the data is not linked correctly, Account Rules will be grayed out. The first row of the file you are linking should be a header row, identifying each column of data. See the Tutorial files for examples. Account Display Account symbols display according to basic principals: The Char chosen for display, as well as its size. The outline color is set by right-clicking the mouse on the Char symbol. The fill color is set by the assignment of this Account to any item in the Hierarcy list, whether it be a Territory, District, Region, or Area. Unassigned Accounts are displayed with gray fill.

Account Rules Add New Rules The Default setting displays all accounts as a small, black diamond. New Rules can change Char types, sizes, and colors, as they meet your Criteria.

Account Rules The new rules, as shown in the previous frame, will cause Accounts to display as follows: (Name Labels are also turned on)
