Counterculture Young people challenged and rejected the values and beliefs of mainstream America and the older generation and older people considered the lifestyles of the young unacceptable. This created a “Generation Gap.”

Hippies a non-conformist group characterized by an emphasis on universal love and world peace rejected society’s rules, especially regarding dress, personal appearance, and living habits
