Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Hake’s Friday, Sept. 1st edition CLASSROOM 2017-2018 News Sneak Peak AT NEXT WEEK Week in Review: Our first day of school was fantastic! We met Chester the raccoon from The Kissing Hand. He helped us with our transition to school. We learned our classroom rules, and met our new friends.   Then, we began our gingerbread unit. We loved graphing cookies, making gingerbread men headbands, comparing a variety of versions of the story, charting about setting, characters, refrain, problem, conclusion and more. Our gingerbread hunt led us all around the school and allowed us to meet people in our school community. We were thrilled to find him! Can you believe he was hiding in Mrs. Barker’s office? Theme for the Week: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Math: Sorting Science/Social Studies: All about me Language Concepts: Letters Popcorn Word: me, my Next Week’s Food We will need the following items donated for activities next week. for the Week of September 4th Sight Words Rainbow words are what we call sight words in kindergarten. Each day when children come into the classroom they will trace the rainbow word posted on the whiteboard with a crayon. As they trace the word students say the word to themselves. This process turns the word into a rainbow. We will have one or two new rainbow word(s) each week and it will be listed on the newsletter for you. Also, at the bottom of each the newsletter will be a rainbow word card. We encourage you to have your child cut out this card and trace it with a crayon three times while saying the word. Then you can keep these cards throughout the year to use as flashcards. You can put them in a ziploc bag, envelope, or hole punch and keep them on a ring. A similar idea is a good way to practice the letter of the week. Each week, when a new letter is introduced, you can write the capital letter and lowercase letter on a piece of paper. Then, hang it on the refrigerator at a low, child level. Have your child trace with a different color crayon while saying the letter name and sound each morning and evening. This can then become a set of flashcards as well.   Address, Phone Number, Birthday Cutting Recognizing name and name writing with one capital and the rest lowercase Zipping and unzipping backpacks Remembering bus or walker info Lunch code if your child is a buyer Keep reading! Tips & Reminders: Please help your child practice tying their shoes. We have 20 friends in our class which it makes it difficult to tie all these shoes each day!  Your child can bring a water bottle to school with them each day. Hydrated brains make SMART KIDS!! Also if you have not done so already…Please bring in a change of clothes for your child to keep in their locker.
