Air Pollution in the United States By: RyLee Henry Period 1

Topic and Issue My topic is air pollution in the U.S. The issue is that there is a lot of air pollution and it is continually rising causing health problems and restricting areas that people can be at. My governing entity is U.S. EPA

Research More than half of people in the U.S. still breathe air dirty enough to cause health problems. Most of the worst air pollution in the United States in is California. “The American Lung Association released their annual State of the Air report Wednesday, and cities across California are at the top of the list for those with the worst year-round particle pollution.” Some studies show that some pollutants may be linked to the increases in the rate of occurrence of cancers and birth complications. Most emissions are from residential Wood Combustion. There are two types of main pollution: Ozone pollution and particle pollution. Oxone is a gas forms in the atmosphere through heat, sunlight, and certain gases that can attack lung tissue.

Cities with the worst air pollution in the U.S. Bakersfield, California Porterville, California Fresno-Madera. California Los Angeles-Long Beach, California El Centro, California Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Effects of Air Pollution Causes respiratory harm Likely to cause early death Likely to cause cardiovascular harm May cause harm to the central nervous system May cause reproductive and development harm May cause cancer

Call to action I think there are so many things we as a community and people could do to help the situation with such bad pollution around the world. We could try to make the public transportation more reliable and secure. If more people could actually use public transportation and rely on it, the less people that will have to drive a car and pollute the air. We could start making laws regulating the amount of hours that cars can drive a week. Having a limit will for sure decrease the amount of pollution being put out by drivers. We should start making sure that we keep our water and oceans clean. We should make sure no one is putting things in there that shouldn’t be there, and just keeping them as clean as possible.
