Analysis of the movie ‘’Every child is special’’ from the perspective of the school social work eliff.eser@hotmail.com

Dyslexia is a kind of learning disorder about listening, speaking, reading, writing and implementation of the mathematical abilities, and acquiring and use of major challenges. These symptoms are the children of intelligence level doesn’t indicate a problem even the intelligence of the high levels seen in children. "Every Child is Special"... Yes, 2007 India-production of bearing the name of this sentence has been analyzed with the perspective of social services . Now the results will be shared with you.  This film describes Ishaan's story who is eight and suffering from learning disabilities and seen a lazy and useless child by his family, especially his father and teachers. eliff.eser@hotmail.com

Ishaan who is in difficulty about learning and recognition of words, sensing reverse in letters and numbers, because of these difficulties although he work a lot can't read and write, don't know the concepts of back and forth or yesterday and tomorrow in daily life, has difficulties about caution and sorting however, in spite of these disabilities, who has multi-dimensional thinking, an average level of intelligence like peers and classmates and a big curious, imagination, visual and auditory perception, strong feelings. And also, Ishaan can draw pictures very well. eliff.eser@hotmail.com

Ishaan is a dyslexia patient and a special child Ishaan is a dyslexia patient and a special child. His family, friends and teachers don't know the semptoms of this illness. This disease is an innate disease and about some differencies the departments of brain. It is neurological. eliff.eser@hotmail.com

These children who have the average level of intelligence have the same rights about going to the same schools, in the same classes, and in the same conditions to receive education like all other children with special needs. In our country, according to law no 5378-article 15 "It can't be privented to have education for disabled people.Disabled children, youths and adults have a right to get education in equal circumstances with people who are not disabled by considering their special conditions and differences." eliff.eser@hotmail.com

They only need their families, teachers and friends the interest and help. Both children with dyslexia and other children should be educated together whatever their problems. Until these children learn to read and write normally like other children, the teachers who are responsible for them shouldn't focus on their words and they make oral exams instead of writing. The teachers should be patient about their learning progress. eliff.eser@hotmail.com

eliff.eser@hotmail.com

They should also use new learning methods according to their interest and talent. Example: In the film, Ishaan is interested in painting so his art teacher use watercolors and silly putty to take attention while the teacher was trying to inroduce letters to him. School social workers should provide the children notice their talent and show their feelings. In order to support them the social workers who can give direct consulting services should work together other diciplines. eliff.eser@hotmail.com

Many managements of schools may prefer to say the family "Take your child from this school" to solve problems or effective professional staff like in the film. Maybe it can be easier for them. At this point, in order to do true assesment from the children who have different developmental specilities, social workers employment should be supported, especially in the education institutions dependent to the government. eliff.eser@hotmail.com
