“Keeping God’s Commands” Christians Gone Wild

What Is God’s Will? For marriage? Being single? etc? Is marriage God’s will? – 1 Corinthians 7:1-9; Genesis 2:18-24 What about divorce? – 1 Corinthians 7:10-16 What about staying single?– 1 Corinthians 7:25-40

What Is God’s Will? What is God’s will for my particular situation? Is where I’m at in life holding me back from serving God to the best of my ability? Does God have a specific plan for my life?

A Universal Principle “Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches.” 1 Corinthians 7:17 NIV

A Universal Principle “Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.” 1 Corinthians 7:20 NIV

A Universal Principle “Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.” 1 Corinthians 7:24 NIV

A Universal Principle Bloom where you’re planted You don’t need to change your station in life to serve God faithfully and bear good fruit Do your best where you are in life, with what you have been blessed with

A Universal Principle Exceptions to the rule If you are living in sin, obviously you need to change! – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Romans 6:1-4 Trying to better your life within the scope of God’s law is not sin – 1 Corinthians 7:19-24

The Bottom Line “Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.” 1 Corinthians 7:19 NIV

The Bottom Line Keep the commandments of God What does God command about my situation in life? – 1 Corinthians 7:19 How does God’s Word tell me to live as a married person? Single? Parent? Employer? Employee? – Ephesians 5:22 - 6:9

The Bottom Line God’s commands are perfect in every way They really work! – Romans 12:2 Our lives are truly blessed when we obey God’s commands – Psalm 1; James 1:25
