Common Core Standards Reading Literature Reading Informative texts Foundational skills Whole class & small group instruction Phonemic awareness, decoding, phonics, oral reading fluency, vocabulary, & comprehension High frequency words Read aloud Listening & Speaking ----- Meeting Notes (8/13/15 17:56) ----- LITERATURE: retell, characters, setting, problem, solution, look at the pictures, what did the book remind you of, who is telling the story INFORMATIVE: main topic, text features, table of contents, bold print, index, glossary PHONICS: distingush sounds in print to better read and write. WRITING Common Core Standards Narrative- Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure. Write about a time you were scared Informative/ Explanatory- Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure. Write about mammals Write about how you brush your teeth Opinion- Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
