The smart school concept for smarter education Saijariina Kuokkanen & Panu Rautiainen

Functionalities Smart lighting control Smart ventilation system Smart heat control system IoT All data will be monitored and reported Solar panels on the roof and a battery storage Demand response everything is smart: smart lighting. movement detectors and artificial intelligence. The illuminanace levels are constant, and they don’t vary during day because of automatic dimming. Demand based ventilation. At minimum power unless there are people in the room. Heating system will keep the room temperature at optimal level and little bit lower at daytime and summer All of these systems have a large amount of sensor that are connected to monitoring and control interface This school has Energy production and storage that is working together with power grid as demand response. The extra energy is sold to grid when the price is high.

Better concentration High productivity Attractive environment for the teachers and the students Good reputation Annual cost savings When the indoor environment is good, people have better concentration and they are more productive and they learn easier. Smart school has a green and modern image that attracts both good teachers and students. Even though the investment costs are little bit higher there will be break even in a few years. and then there will be annual cost savings.
