IMTC Telepresence AG Overview June 2010 Stephen Botzko

Telepresence AG Goal Craft an industry solution and standard for widespread adoption. An extensible solution is required that will support existing and envisioned use cases.

The Path to a Standard Telepresence AG - community consensus problem description use cases requirements IETF - standardization the solution will have other communities RAI DISPATCH WG

Telepresence AG Objective Specify requirements and use cases for multi-streaming as input to Standards Development Organizations (SDO) such as the IETF to standardize a multi-streaming solution

Multi-Streaming – What are the Issues? Need to present multiple video streams in a coherent manner Need to be able to scale video to show people at the correct size Need to provide a spatial audio sound stage that is consistent with the video Need to be able to associate audio and video Relationships between all kinds of media for all kinds of devices

Table-End Traditional Table-End Multiview Distributed Multiview Table-Center Multiview For group conference settings within a room, there are a few basic configurations for camera coverage. Immersive 6

Multi-Streaming – What’s the Scope? Use cases for interoperable ‘immersive’ experience Full Size display with eye contact and gaze awareness Consistent sound stage at all sites Multi-screen non-immersive experience Multipoint Simulcast and Layered Video Interop between single and multiscreen systems 3D Boundary between Video Conferencing and Telepresence is becoming blurred.

Work Plan IMTC Work description to IETF DISPATCH – May 18 Use Case draft to IETF for July meeting - July 5 Proposed IETF schedule Nov 2010 Use Cases and Requirements to IESG as Informational RFC March 2011 Architecture to IESG as Informational RFC Nov 2011 Submit protocol draft to IESG as Proposed Standard RFC
