Film Making: He experimented on his first few films. Done remakes of German expressionism and adaptations of Eugene O’Neill and Leo Tolstoy. Worked in Nikkatsu’s studio in the 1923 after an earthquake. Had to change his filming style to fit in with the military and government standard of properganda. Searved as president of the ‘Directors Guild of Japan’.

Ugetsu Monogatari (1954) Was more popular in western regions than in Japan itself. Based on Ugetsu Monogarari by Akinari Ueda. It has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes Won a silver lion award- Best direction of the Cannes classic section Number 3 in the Kinema Junpo’s best 10 movies releases in 1953. Ugetsu Monogatari is translated to Tales of moonlight and rain

Ugetsu Monogatari: Won awards for direction and sound at Mainichi Film Awards, cinematography from the ministry of education. Appeared in ‘Sight and Sounds’ magazine top ten critics poll of the greatest movies ever made between 1962-1972.
