The Circulatory System Presented by Madison Marzano
Role and Function Transports food, oxygen, waste, and carbon dioxide throughout the body These materials are carried in a fluid known as blood Blood picks up a fresh supply of oxygen in the lungs and other important substances and carries them to parts of the body where needed An Artery carries blood away from the heart A vein carries blood toward the heart
Diseases of the Circulatory system Atherosclerosis is when fatty material builds up in the arteries The artery gets narrower When very narrow a blood clot will form Artery is clogged and the blood supply is cut off This could cause a stroke or a heart attack People who smoke, eat fatty foods, and get little exercise suffer from this
Exercises Anything that keeps the heart pumping faster than your normal heart rate Different sports Running Aerobics
Foods Eat grain foods Blueberries Salmon Soy protein Oatmeal Spinach
Systems it relates to… It helps the digestive system because it transports waste out of the body It is related to the nervous system because the brain needs a supply of blood It’s related to the respiratory system because it helps transport oxygen
Chambers of the heart #1 is the right atrium, which receives oxygen – depleted blood from the body and pumps it through to the right ventricle #2 is the right ventricle which receives the oxygen- depleted blood from the right atrium into the lungs #3 is the left atrium which receives oxygen – rich blood from the body and pumps it into the left ventricle #4 is the left ventricle which receives the oxygen – rich blood from the left atrium
