Outline PEAK’s efforts on Updating RAS displays in PEAK EMS Creating RAS displays in PI ProcessBook BC-Hydro BPA PG&E Collaboration with entities on improving visualization of RAS

RAS displays in PEAK EMS

RAS displays in PEAK EMS RAS displays in PEAK EMS are categorized by BA and are currently under the process of information updates, including: Scheme names Document links PI RAS display availabilities (links to PI displays) On EMS RAS displays, PEAK operators can find related RAS documents for each RAS scheme and links to related RAS PI displays if applicable.

RAS displays in PEAK EMS

RAS displays in PI ProcessBook

RAS displays in PI ProcessBook Current progress: PEAK is currently focused on creating PI displays to visualize RAS trigger conditions and protective actions in BC-Hydro, BPA and PG&E areas. As of now, most of BC-Hydro RAS displays and BPA PDCI RAS display are rolled out to production environment. PG&E 500 KV RAS displays are under designing and constructing.

RAS displays in PI ProcessBook Main informative items for operators on RAS displays: RAS document links; RAS IDs in PEAK RTCA and related contingency IDs; Substations with modeled generation/load shedding actions and total armed amount; Detailed arming information on which generator/load is armed for shedding; RAS triggering logic diagrams.

RAS displays in PI ProcessBook Benefits it brought to PEAK real-time operation: RCs and System Operators are viewing same information during discussions; Becoming a communication platform between operators and engineers; Acting as an alternative resource for validating RTCA results; Presenting RAS logics modeled in RTCA straightforwardly; Storing total armed gen/load shed amounts in PI; PI platform allows easy updates and maintenance.

Collaboration with entities PEAK has initiated discussions with CAISO regarding PG&E PACI RAS displays. Sharing ideas of RAS visualization displays. CAISO shared PI displays used for monitoring RAS arming statues; PEAK shared PI displays draft created for presenting PG&E PACI RAS operations. Discussions are in progress.
