POS Fraud

POS Point of Sale (POS) Skimming POS Device Tampering / Skimming Consumer facing businesses bars, restaurants, supermarkets or gas stations. Client offers to pay, fraudster or conspirator then swipes card with electronic device (card reader). POS Device Tampering / Skimming Fraudsters intercept supply chain to Retailer Introduce tampered devices which record mag stripe data Full Mag Stripe Data is sent to fraudsters Device sends card data over wireless, bluetooth, etc…

Hardware Manipulation This can occur in a number of ways: Adding additional readers to the POS device to read data on the chip or magnetic stripe twice Adding code to the software on the device to read data and PINs as they are entered, and then transmit this to the fraudsters.

Card Cloning / Skimming This often occurs in restaurants or similar where the waiter will have a magnetic stripe reader attached somewhere, on a belt, on the ankle etc: When offered the card they drop it and swipe it as they stand up, or if its on their belt they then distract the customer as they swipe the card. Then as all keyboards are the same layout they can recognise the PIN as it is entered. They now have all the details they need to clone a card September 18 Caribbean Electronic Payments LLC
