Control systems plans & activities for HL-LHC during LS2 G. Pigny TE/VSC/ICM

CC + TCLD collimators (P2) P2: ~350m from UAs C11L2 (DCUM 2906); C11R2 (DCUM 3758) 4 new sector valves 4 new cables 8 new Pennings 8 new cables 2 new Piranis 2 new cables 4 new ion pumps 4 new cables 4 new NEG cartridges 2 new cables (1 circuit / sector) Tot: 20 cables + 14 controllers in UA23/27

11T + TCLD collimators (P7) P7: ~300m (DS+LSS) + ~200m (TZ76) = 500m from TZ76; C8L7 (DCUM 19701); C8R7 (DCUM 20286) 4 new sector valves 4 new cables 8 new Pennings 8 new cables 2 new Piranis 2 new cables 4 new ion pumps 4 new cables 4 new NEG cartridges 2 new cables (1 circuit / sector) Tot: 20 cables + 14 controllers in TZ76

TDIS (P2) P2 – B4L2: 2 new vacuum sectors 2 Sector valves 2 new cables 5 Penning gauges 4 new cables 1 Pirani 2 new cable, one for the previous sector 6 Ion pumps 75l/s (existing cables can be re-used) Tot: 8 cables + 6 local cables for VPIs + 6 controllers in UA23 TODAY LS2

TDIS (P8) P8 – B4R8: 2 new vacuum sectors 2 Sector valves 2 new cables 5 Penning gauges 4 new cables 1 Pirani 1 new cable 6 Ion pumps 75l/s (existing cables can be re-used) Tot: 7 cables + 6 local cables for VPIs + 6 controllers in UA87 TODAY LS2

R2E - Local PS for fixed pumping groups R2E motivation: remove sensitive components from local PS crates for fixed pumping groups close to the IT (1st) and then LSS (2nd). Removal of 2 bipolar transistors (regulated PS => un-regulated PS) In parallel, adding of new functionalities: Primary pump passive current measurement Remote reset of the thermal relay of the primary pump Pressure switch (5 mbar between VPP and VVI) These new functionalities are needed in the arcs Implies PLC modifications (RE, UA/UJ/US) 102 in the LSS for QRL, SA & IT and MKB (HL-CONS) without turbo controller 96 in the ARCs for QRL and Magnets (LHC-CONS) with RadTol turbo controller up to 200 Gy LS2: end of life replacement of 96 turbos Turbo controllers relocated in the alcoves Need to pull long cables Prototype

R2E - Vacuum gauges in the DS/ARCs Active gauges Penning E-9 # Head: IKR251, gauge: PKR251 Pirani # Head: custom, Gauge: PKR251 Piezo # Huba 680.99413 DS 16 48 ARC 312 120 Total 328 168 LS2 LS3 VGMB.317.12R4.Q VGRE.487.12R4.M VGPE.487.12R4.M VGMB.331.10R4.M VGMB.487.12R4.M

Present system architecture Max 1km Q D Gauge electronics ND100 cable PLC RE local cables of gauges Piezo, Pirani, Penning gauges VRJGE Example mid-arc left side of IP Gauges are distributed along the 3km DS/ARC Group of 3 gauges for IV sectors (Piezo, Pirani, Penning) Group of 2 gauges for IV pumping groups and BV (Pirani, Penning) Front-end electronics inside VRJGE convert signals from gauges to analog 0-10V 0-10V sent to the PLC located in a safe service area (Alcove) Maximum distance between PLC and VRJGE is 1km PLC converts the analog 0-10V to pressure and provides alarms to CRYO (Piezo, Pirani)

New system architecture Q D Multi-conductor cable PLC Alcove Local gauge cables Piezo, Pirani, Penning gauges Example mid-arc left side of IP Patch Panel Mini rack Front-end electronics ND100 4-20mA ctrls VRJGE Mini-rack bellow the 1st or 2nd dipole after quadrupole Mini-rack will house a 3U euro-crate Each gauge will have a dedicated RadTol card Modular cards – hot replaceable

The 3U euro-crate and the cards Dedicated front panel for each card – type of gauge Presently we have up to 7 gauge electronics Can fit up to 11 front-end cards + the power supply

PLC replacement 30 PLC S7-400: used to connect all controllers to SCADA 125 PLC S7-300: used for pumping groups controls Obsolescence of the CPUs; Insufficient work memory Replacement of S7-400 PLCs by S7-1500 Replacement of S7-300 CPU by ET200 Profinet Pumping groups will be controlled by a dedicated master PLC (S7-1500) Decoupling of master PLCs between beam vacuum and insulation vacuum
