Ms. Coy’s Classroom Procedures Welcome to the 2017-2018 School year! Go DHS trailblazers! English rocks!

Ms. Coy 12th year teaching in CCSD Fourth year at Durango High School Bachelor’s Degree of Education in English from University of Nevada, Reno Master’s Degree in K-12 Counseling from University of Phoenix Highly Qualified in both English and K-12 Counseling Two amazing daughters: Ava, 7 years old, and Lily, 4 years old Has major Trailblazer Pride

Principal Miller’s DHS Student Expectations 1) Dress Code- Dress appropriately for school or you must go to the Dean’s Office to change into a P.E. uniform. 2) Tardy Policy- Be on time to class (seated before the bell rings), or you will be issued a Tardy Sweep Slip that required a parent to sign you in before school the next day. 3) Public Display of Affection (PDA)- No, just no. Avoid at all costs. Keep it simple. Be thoughtful. Be smart. 4) Profanity/ Inappropriate Language- Use positive, professional, and courteous communication. 5) Cell Phone, Earbuds, and Headphone- Technology must be stored away, powered off, and NOT visible during all class periods or passing periods or THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED; no warning, this is your warning.

Ms. Coy’s Classtime Procedures Follow directions Be in your seat when the bell rings Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself No bullying No food, gum, drink, applying make-up, ear phones, technology Technology of any kind (cell phones, I-pods, cd players, mp3 players, headphones, handheld gaming etc. will be confiscated upon sight and turned in to the Dean’s Office)

Procedures- To achieve and succeed Start of class- Enter quietly and start Bell Work. Bell work is a daily journal question which must be at least 5 sentences long. Read objectives Come prepared: Pens, pencil, paper, book, and learning notebook In your Composition Notebook, copy the date, journal question, and write 5 sentences to answer (I will collect your Composition Notebooks every two weeks to grade your journals and notes) Use the front and back of the paper in your Composition Notebooks because they need to last all year!

Classtime During class- Be respectful, raise your hand, don’t talk when Ms. Coy is teaching End of class- Stay seated in your assigned seat UNTIL the bell rings, turn in work into class basket Bell to bell instruction No lining up at the door

Tardies Tardy-Be seated in your assigned seat when the bell rings, or you’re tardy. If you’re tardy, you will be required to get a tardy slip from the Dean’s Office to enter class.

Supplies Composition Notebooks- You must purchase one to use for bellwork, notes, and vocabulary. Bring it to class everyday! Supplies for essay writing Black or blue pens College-ruled paper

Make-up Work Go to my website: http://my.ccsd.net/vcoy/ Find the date of your absence and copy down journal, assignments, and print attachments when applicable Turn in make-up work UNDER class basket in Make-up Work Folder within THREE DAYS, for full credit See Ms. Coy before or after school for questions (not during classtime)

Bathrooms You must trade your phone for the bathroom pass If you don’t use your bathroom pass, you get 50 points of extra credit added to your tests and quizzes at the end of the quarter Excessive bathroom passes will not be tolerated

Book Policy Respect the books to keep in excellent condition Think about four fictional novels you want to read this year. Minimum 250 pages Outside novel: silent reading and projects due each quarter Bring to class EVERYDAY for random book checks

Fire Drill Stay calm Line up and exit to the school bus parking lot Then walk out to the front school parking lot and look for the huge sign labeled 223. Ms. Coy will take roll, so find this class! Return to class within five minutes (or a truancy referral will be written)
