A great introduction if you are thinking about eventually having your own business one day! Activities/Assignments: Entrepreneurship profile, Country in a Bag presentation

Let’s Take A Poll!! Which course topic interests you the most? https://www.polleverywhere.com/multiple_choice_polls/ScssgxhFvExeg3N

Class Rules Cell Phones Are in bags/purses when you enter the class Can only be used after lesson or presentations are completed Music is fine, but bring headphones and at an appropriate level Snapchat and Selfies in class… not cool!!! Laptops/Tablets Encouraged to use in class Inappropriate use means privilege is LOST FOR THE SEMESTER Netbooks available

Class Rules Submitting Late Work 5% deduction per day up to a point (teacher discretion), after that it’s 0% Communication is KEY - I’m pretty nice, so just come talk to me! Late to Class Require a late slip if more than 5 minutes late If I am speaking or someone is presenting, please wait at the door until you are acknowledged - then you can enter and sit quietly Absences You are responsible for your work, due dates, assignments, missed lessons, the store, EVERYTHING if you are absent.

What are the Expectations? Now that we know what the course is all about, what is it going to be actually like, day-by-day? Lessons will be given using Google Slides pretty frequently (this is a business norm!!) You might need to take your own notes or I might give you fill in the blank notes. OR you can print and make notes right on the slides There will be lots of activities and potential for marks Lots of little activities are done throughout the course that will be marked. These all add up, so make sure you hand them in ON TIME There will be a Unit test for each Unit

What are the Expectations? Presentations are a big part of business We will discuss and practice good presentation techniques, such as formal speaking, eye contact, engagement, how to make a good slide presentation, etc. Almost/all of your presentations will be as a part of a group. Group work There is a lot of group work in this course. Pick your groups WISELY when possible. The overall submission is a reflection on ALL of you, and not a single person’s problem or responsibility.

What are the Expectations? RESPONSIBILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY I am big on this… by Grade 10 I expect some maturity in your handling of yourself and responsibility for yourself in this class

What are the Expectations? Scenario 1: Student is going to be missing a few weeks of school… who is responsible to ask for work? When should they ask? When is it due? Scenario 2: Student is sick the day of a group presentation... Who should communicate that they are sick? When? Who should they tell? What happens to the group? Scenario 3: Student is sick the day of a unit test... Who should communicate that they are sick? When? What happens with the test? Scenario 4: Student is sick a couple of days... What should they do? Is work still due for them?

Where Can I Find… Handouts? File folder or Website Handouts will be at the side of the room by my desk and/or on the class website Please check these first before asking me Information on Due Dates/Important Info? White board or Website or Remind All major due dates and reminders will be on the white board AND on the website (and of course, communicated in class). Do not come to me asking me when something is due!! Remind will be used to help remind as well WEBSITE CAN BE FOUND HERE!!!!

Where Can I Find… Mrs E’s Contact Info and Website? Whiteboard and Website The whiteboard will also have my name, email address, and the link to the Website written down The Website also has my email address and the Remind system WEBSITE CAN BE FOUND HERE!!!!

School Store - Keaners! Part of your job as a Grade 10 Business student is to work the school store. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about the art of sales and working with customers :) Some important things to know: We will be doing formal training and devising a schedule. This includes period 2 and/or might also include period 3 and 4. This is a part of the course, so your time in the store is NOT volunteer unless you work in the store outside of the time assigned to you. Other people to go to for store-related questions: Mrs. Ronan and Mr. Lane TRAINING ON WEDNESDAY!! DO NOT MISS!!!!

Disney Who is going on the Disney trip??!!! Disney questions: Mr. Lane PS - I’m super jealous :)
