1st Grade Curriculum Reading- Reading Street, Fundations and Recipe for Reading Writing- Writer’s Workshop: Lucy Caulkins Math- Investigations Science and Social Studies- Topic Based

Homework: *Homework will be given at the beginning of each week and due back on Friday mornings. Complete phonics worksheets (to be turned in Friday). 2. Read for 15minutes. 3. Skills Practice: Practice quarterly High Frequency Words /reading and spelling. Review past phonics skills. Handwriting using correct letter and number formation.

Grading PowerSchools- a login will be required. All grades will be able to be accessed online. There should be no surprises as to what your child’s grades are since you have access online. You should check you child’s grade at least 2 times a month. Grades reflects what your child does in class independently. Grades- E= 90- 100%, S=70- 89%, N=60- 69%, U=0%- 59% No extra credit will be given. Any assignments scored below 50%, a 50% will be entered in the grade book. Missing assignments will be given a 49%.

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe!!!! Behavior Expectations West Wing School-Wide Behavior Plan: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe!!!! Praise your child for anything green or above. It is your child’s responsibility to bring daily folder in every day and to color in their chart. Students will move up and down the color chart throughout the day. Their color counts toward a weekly and monthly goal. If your child does not color in their chart that day, it will not be counted towards the goal. Outstanding Great! Arrival: Our school day begins promptly at 8:45. 3 Tardies = Lunch Detention Students are not allowed on campus before 8:30 Students who show up after 8:45 will sent to the office for a tardy slip Please call in if your child will be absent Please try to schedule appointments for after school if possible Specials: Includes: Art, PE, Music Taught by our special areas teachers Please make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes. This will allow them to earn their participation grade. If you have any questions or concerns with specials, please direct them to the specials teacher. They will be able to answer your questions or help you.

Lunch: Recess: Dismissal: Practice and know their lunch number. Practice opening any packages, containers, or drinks they may bring for lunch. Setting up a lunch account makes paying for lunch easy!!! It can be done online, no lost money to worry about. Recess: A fun and exciting time! This is their time and the BEST time to use the restroom (please encourage your child to go then). Remind them to follow the school rules. Dismissal: Students will be dismissed at 3:30. Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home.

Other Important Information… Dress Code Please follow the school policy on dress code. This policy applies to all grades at our school. Please keep in mind: no spaghetti straps, halter tops, or razor back shirts. Birthdays We will celebrate birthdays by announcing them on the announcements, and make their day special!! Due to severe allergies, birthday treats are not allowed. Volunteers: A volunteer training class is REQUIRED, in order for you to participate in the classroom, field trips, or special events, such as class parties. First training will be August 24th, 3:30- 4:00 and 4-4:30 in the Science Lab (room 324). Weekly Emails: to inform you what is going on in the classroom. **** Please let us know if you don’t receive them!!!!

Self help skills Your child should: Know their student ID (lunch number). They will use this for lunch, library and computers. Tie their shoes. Backpacks- carry themselves, open and close it. Lunch- open items, carry lunchbox, throw away trash and clean up after self. Our goal is Independence!!!
