Advertising Design your own advertisement for any product you want. You get marks for including: Slogan Caption Visual Text

What is advertising? What is it? Advertising is the science of selling products to people. Advertisers try to persuade their target audience to purchase products. How does it work? They do this by making people feel like their lives will be better if they buy their products.

Advertising Think of any advertisement you know. What is the advertiser trying to get you to buy? How will the product make your life better, according to the ad?

Match Advertisers Persuade Target audience Products Stuff. To try to get people to buy something. People. Make ads.

Can you answer the following questions? [Revision] Who advertises? What do they advertise? Where do they advertise? Why do they advertise?

Advertising (part 2) Most adverts have three characteristics. Slogans and captions. Visual. Text.

1. Slogans and captions A slogan is a repeated catchphrase associated with a product. Good slogans:

Slogans and captions Look at any advertisement. Identify its slogan and caption. Say whether you think it is effective.

Advertising - revision What is advertising? How does it work? What is a slogan? What is a caption?

Slogans and captions How do we know if they are effective? Do they use buzz words to appeal to our emotions? (fresh, new, guaranteed etc.) Does it make you laugh? Does it talk directly to the target audience? Does it make a statement that can’t be contradicted? (the best built cars in the world). Does it suggest that your life will be better without the product?

Slogans and captions Is this advertisement effective? Explain why.

Homework Bring in any advertisement from a newspaper or magazine. Identify its slogan and caption. Say whether you think it is effective.

2. Visuals Visuals are the images we see in the advertisement. These can be photographs, colours, pictures or symbols.
