? ¿Qué hora es? To ask the current time use the following question: 12 3 9 ? 6

To give the whole hour use the following phrase: Son las + hour

Example ¿Qué hora es? Son las tres.

Son las doce. Es mediodía. Es medianoche. There are three ways to express the time 12:00: Son las doce. Es mediodía. Es medianoche.

Example ¿Qué hora es? (NOON) Son las doce. Or Es mediodía.

¿Qué hora es? (MIDNIGHT) Example ¿Qué hora es? (MIDNIGHT) Son las doce. Or Es medianoche.

When it is one o’clock the following expression is used: Es la una.

hour + y + minutes Use this from 1-29 minutes. When expressing minutes after the hour the following pattern is used: hour + y + minutes Use this from 1-29 minutes.

Example ¿Qué hora es? Son las doce y cinco.

minutes before the next hour When it is 31 minutes or more past the hour the following pattern is more commonly used: next hour + menos + minutes before the next hour Use this from 31-59 minutes.

Son las cuatro menos cinco. Example ¿Qué hora es? Son las cuatro menos cinco.

hour + y cuarto To say quarter past the hour use the following phrase: (and a quarter)

Example ¿Qué hora es? Son las doce y cuarto.

hour + y media To say half past the hour use the following phrase: (and a half)

Example ¿Qué hora es? Son las once y media.

To say quarter to the hour use the following phrase: next hour + menos cuarto (minus a quarter)

Example ¿Qué hora es? Son las seis menos cuarto.

To talk about the time of day use the following phrases: . . . de la mañana. . . . de la tarde. . . . de la noche.

To ask someone at what time they do something, ask the following question : ¿ A qué hora ? Answer in one of the the following ways: A la … ( 1 o’clock ) A las… ( all others )

¿A qué hora es la practica de tenis? Example ¿A qué hora es la practica de tenis? A las tres y media.
