Physical Fitness WHAT DOES A PHYSICALLY FIT PERSON LOOK LIKE?

Physical Fitness ~ The ability of your body systems to work together efficiently

HEALTH & WELLNESS ~ Definition of Health has changed over time. ~ Used to focus on illness only and getting people well. ~ New definition focuses on wellness and all parts of health that allow you to look and feel good about yourself. ~ Health is often associated with good fitness

HEALTH & WELLNESS ~ Wellness is a state of being that enables you to reach your fullest potential. ~Wellness includes Physical, Intellectual, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Fitness.

Physical Activity ~ Any Movement using the large muscles of the body ~ Two Important benefits of a Regular Program of Physical Fitness are FEELING GOOD, LOOKING GOOD, and INCREASED ENERGY

HEALTH-RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS ~ Anyone can achieve health-related fitness ~ You can be great in one category of health-related fitness but lack in another ~To be healthy, you should have good ratings in all five health-related fitness categories ~ Hypokinetic Condition- health problems caused partly by a lack of physical activity - Examples: heart disease, high blood pressure

HEALTH-RELATED PHYSICAL FITNESS ~ Cardiovascular Fitness - Ability to exercise your body for long periods of time - A marathon runner would score high in this fitness category.

Skill-Related Physical Fitness Agility The ability to change the position of your body quickly and to control your body’s movements

Skill-Related Physical Fitness Balance The ability to keep an upright posture while standing or moving

Skill-Related Physical Fitness Coordination The ability to use your senses together with your body parts or to use two or more body parts together

Skill-Related Physical Fitness Reaction Time The amount of time it takes to move once you realize that you need to act. A ballet dancer would not have much need for reaction time, but a hockey goalie would
