Why are we here today? To discuss… Our charge What we’ve been doing How you can help us How we can help you and our campus community move toward a more sustainable food service program

Food Service Task Force Charge Review of…. Board plans Catering Cash operations, outside vendors Starbucks Social Science - cash operation Devil’s Den

Charge Objectives Increase satisfaction to the university community and visitors related to food services Looking for levels of satisfaction that will contribute to positive recruiting efforts Maximize revenue generating opportunities

Research Current Food Service Contract Comparative food service contracts, meal plans, prices, and business structures from other universities, including our benchmark schools Review survey information SSI – Student Satisfaction Inventory Skyfactor – Resident Student – Benchmarked survey 2016-2017 University – student exit surveys 2016-2017 Student focus groups (9) Conversations with IRC and SGA Meeting with Food Service Local 217 group Meeting with Food Service Managers Administrating surveys to faculty, staff and students

Findings to Date The top items students have told us in focus groups and surveys to date: There are not enough meal plan options They want more late night hours They say the meal plan cost too much They want more take out options They say the food is better than last semester They say they want more variety They say they like Hilltop but the food is better in Memorial Hall

Other Factors On-campus residence halls have no apartments with kitchens Union worker benefits continue to increase Products and services continue to rise Stresses of the economy impact on student financial situations Memorial Hall needs a renovation (it’s old) Operating two dining service buildings, with five total buildings operating food services is costly If we can’t find a balance leveling the board plan, students will move off campus, and housing revenue will decrease

We need your feedback! Please complete the survey when the link is emailed to you this week!

Thanks from the Food Service Task Force!
