Subject Content - Make - Select from and use specialist tools, techniques, processes, equipment and machinery precisely, including computer – aided manufacture. How can I ensure students use a range of fabrics? Firstly, bring in handling box into school including a range of resources such as: fabrics, fastenings (zips, buttons, ect), threads, yarns, sequins and beads for the children to feel and gain a basic understanding onto the vast amount of resources used in textiles.

Zips incorporated into Fashion and Surface Patterns 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the zipper, invented by Gideon Sunback. This allows them to distinguish whether the fabric is woven, knitted, or a jersey style fabric. They can also tell if the fabric is synthetic or made from natural fibres.
