Air Masses cont.  A large body of air with the same temperature and moisture content  When air is stationary or moves slowly it takes on uniform characteristics.
What is the relationship between air temperature and relative humidity? This graph assumes the amount of water in the air does NOT change as the temperature.

Science 10 Weather Unit Assignment By: Terry and Dylan

What Are Air Masses? Air masses are large volumes of air that horizontally uniform properties in terms of temperature, and to a lesser extent humidity. Air masses acquire there properties after spending days to weeks over the same part of the earth. For example, an air mass over Northern Canada would have different properties than an air mass over the Tropical Pacific Ocean.

What is a high pressure systems? A High pressure system happens when an air mass cools over an ocean or cold region on land. And that’s when a high pressure system forms. What is a high pressure systems?

Fronts Fronts are boundaries between air masses. Fronts are also defined by the characteristics of the air mass it is replacing.

Types of Fronts Cold Front Warm Front Stationary Front Occluded Fronts Colder air is replacing relatively warmer air Warm Front Warmer air is replacing relatively colder air Stationary Front Neither air mass is moving Occluded Fronts A cold air mass that takes over a warmer air mass, lifting the warm layer aloft.

Types Of Fronts Dryline: Like a front, but a sharp contrast in moisture (humidity) more so than temperature

What is low pressure systems? Low pressure may happen when air masses travel over warm land and over oceans. It also happens when a region where rising air is leaving less-dense air below. Low pressure system rises
