Presentation transcript:

What are ways that you see kindness is everyday life What are ways that you see kindness is everyday life? What makes someone a kind person?

Kindness Kind individuals believe that others are worthy of attention and affirmation for their own sake as human beings, not out of s sense of duty or principle. There are three traits of altruistic personalities: Empathy/sympathy Moral reasoning Social responsibility (ViaCharacter.org) 1 the quality or state of being gentle and considerate; a kind deed (Merrian -Webster Dictionary)

Kindness falls under the virtue category of Humanity Kindness falls under the virtue category of Humanity. Humanity describes strengths that manifest in caring relationships with others. These strengths are interpersonal and are mostly relevant in one-on-one relationships. Definition from ViaCharacter.org

Titan Creed Titan’s endeavor to… Titans love, respect, and protect one another

A glimpse of kindness Here is a short video clip that shows kindness and empathy in action. It is of a young fan, who is at a baseball game. He receives a baseball from the field and ends up giving the ball to an opposing fan after this fan is clearly upset for not receiving the baseball in the first place. The selfless act from this young fan team is displayed in the video.

Questions to think through Kindness Do you think it was easy for the young fan to give up his baseball to another fan? Was it even harder for this fan to give up the baseball, especially knowing it was an opposing fan? Do you think the other fan who was given the baseball will remember this act of kindness that was displayed toward him? How did the young fan who initially received the baseball show empathy to the opposing fan? Have you demonstrated kindness like this in the past? How? What are some ways that we can be kind at school, especially toward those with whom we have difficulty? What are some ways that we can show empathy or kindness outside of school? Who is someone that you feel has modeled empathy for you? Why would the character trait of kindness be important in life?

Exercises for Boosting Kindness: Perform a random act of kindness each day (ex: letting someone go in front of you in the lunch line, complimenting a student in your class, buying a treat for another student, etc.) Say kinder and softer words to people when interacting through texting, writing letters, talking on phone. Smile when answering the phone and sound happy to hear from the person on the other end of the line. Listening to a friend in need. From Viacharacter.org
