Series Section Intro to Series Series A sum of the terms of a sequence is called a series. A series is a finite series if it is the sum of a finite.
In this section, we will begin investigating infinite sums. We will look at some general ideas, but then focus on one specific type of series.

Finding Sums of Infinite Geometric Series Section 8.4

What You Will Learn Find partial sums of infinite geometric series. Find sums of infinite geometric series.

Partial Sums of Infinite Geometric Series The sum Sn of the first n terms of an infinite series is called a partial sum. The partial sums of an infinite geometric series may approach a limiting value.

Step 2: Plot the points (1, 0. 5), (2, 0. 75), (3, 0. 88), (4, 0 Step 2: Plot the points (1, 0.5), (2, 0.75), (3, 0.88), (4, 0.94), and (5, 0.97). The graph is shown at the right. From the graph, Sn appears to approach 1 as n increases.
