Recap from the CIA Factbook Data Chart Why do you think the countries of Latin America are not as well off as the U.S.? Answer: A key factor is that most of Latin America never industrialized or did so late in the game.

Ethnicity Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile are mostly white (88% or greater) Guatemala has the highest percentage of people that identify as pure blooded indigenous (Amerindian) at 40%. Bolivia is typical of many Latin American countries: 68% mestizo, 20% indigenous, 5% white.

Over time they became known as haciendas.
