Blessed Are The Meek – Some Practical Applications Braggs church of Christ Blessed are the meek --- Practical applications Blessed Are The Meek – Some Practical Applications Spiritual Growth

Introduction Albert Barnes says, "Meekness is patience in the reception of injuries. It is neither meanness nor a surrender of our rights, nor cowardice; but it is the opposite of sudden anger, of malice, of long-harbored vengeance."

Introduction “Those who are meek are gentle, kind, humble, composed, and slow to anger”

I. Meekness Is Required In Our Relationship With God 1. God consider this a precious quality 1 Pet. 3:4 “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

I. Meekness Is Required In Our Relationship With God 2. It is necessary to receive God’s word Js. 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Js. 1:21 NKJV Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

I. Meekness Is Required In Our Relationship With God 3. The Christian walk or life requires it Eph. 4:1-2

Eph. 4:1-2 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, [2] With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

I. Meekness Is Required In Our Relationship With God Thus meekness is curbing the "natural" desires to rebel, fight, have our own way, push ourselves forward, etc. We submit to the Lord in obedience to His will.

II. Meekness Is Required When We Teach Others The Gospel 1. When we give an answer to those who ask 1 Pet. 3:15

1 Pet. 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

II. Meekness Is Required When We Teach Others The Gospel 2. It is necessary when restoring the erring Gal. 6:1

Gal. 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

II. Meekness Is Required When We Teach Others The Gospel 3. It is required in the gospel preacher 1 Tim. 6:11

1 Tim. 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

III. Meekness Is Required In Our Relationships With Others Titus 3:1-2 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, [2] To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

III. Meekness Is Required In Our Relationships With Others Phil. 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

IV. Meekness Is Required For Our Own Personal Benefit Js. 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

IV. Meekness Is Required For Our Own Personal Benefit Js. 3:13 NKJV 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

IV. Meekness Is Required For Our Own Personal Benefit Gal. 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Conclusion “No man can lead others until he has mastered himself; no man can serve others until he has subjected himself; no man can be in control of others until he has learned to control himself.”—Wm. Barclay
