The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) opened to patients on 1 July 2007. The impressive £60 million Centre is among the most modern of its kind in the country, with the latest equipment and technology throughout, including state-of-the-art operating theatres and cardiac catheter laboratories. Offering specialist diagnosis and treatment for people with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, patients benefit from the highest quality treatment and care delivered by a team of experienced staff. This means that Essex patients needing this type of treatment no longer have to travel into London or elsewhere. The CTC has facilities for 100 patients, including many individual bedrooms, employs over 400 staff and has the capacity to perform 1,400 surgical procedures and 2,500 cardiology procedures each year. Facilities include a highly equipped, 22 bed critical care unit, separate cardiology day ward, rehabilitation gym, café and shop. There are over 400 skilled members of staff already working at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. Each member of staff makes a valuable contribution towards ensuring that the CTC is a world-class health facility, providing top quality treatment and care for patients.
