Electronic Balance Method 1 1) Press the “Tare/Zero” button. 2) Place the container that you will be placing the chemical into onto the scale. 3) Press the “Tare/Zero” button again. 4) Using a spatula and holding the chemical bottle close to the scale, add the chemical to the container. 5) Record the mass exactly as the balance displays (include units too!).

Electronic Balance Method 2 1) Press the “Tare/Zero” button. 2) Place the container that you will be placing the chemical into onto the scale. 3) Record the mass of the container (include units too!) 4) Using a spatula and holding the chemical bottle close to the scale, add the chemical to the container. 5) Record the mass exactly as the balance displays (include units too!). 6) Subtract the total mass (container and chemical together) by the mass of the container.

Graduated Cylinder 1) Get eye level with the meniscus. 2) Read from the bottom of the meniscus. 3) Record measurement. meniscus

Decanting 1) Place stirring rod over top of beaker or container from which you are pouring. 2) Grasp the beaker or container and with the same hand, use your pointer finger to hold the stirring rod across the top of the beaker or container. 3) With your other hand, grasp the container into which you are going to pour. 4) Carefully tilt the beaker you are pouring with into the other container. Allow the tip of the stirring rod to touch the inside wall of the container into which you are pouring. 5) Allow the liquid to travel down the stirring rod into the container in which you are pouring.

Filter Paper and Filtering 1) Folder your filter paper in the following way: a) Fold the piece of filter paper in half. b) Fold the filter paper again in half making a quarter piece. c) From the rounded top, separate the opening by pulling three layers away from one of the layers. d) Place filter paper into funnel. e) Wet filter paper with some distilled water. 2) Carefully pour the mixture into the funnel. 3) Using a wash bottle, rinse out the remaining mixture from the beaker into the funnel.
