G042 – Lecture 13 Task D – Creating A Spreadsheet 9/14/2018 G042 – Lecture 13 Task D – Creating A Spreadsheet Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher www.computechedu.co.uk

Session Objectives Understand the purpose of creating a spreadsheet 9/14/2018 Session Objectives Understand the purpose of creating a spreadsheet Know a range of features and functions which can be used to build a spreadsheet Created a simple spreadsheet.

9/14/2018 Overview A spreadsheet is basically a grid of data which have formatting applied. Formulas are used to summarised and enable us to carry out modeling activities. Graphs can be drawn to present. You will create a spreadsheet to analyse numerical data collected for your investigation. Crime statistics for different areas House prices in different areas Land prices for different counties / areas Rental prices in different areas Population statistics for different counties / areas

Use: Engine Size (cc) | 1.2 NOT Engine size | 1.2cc When formatting numbers ensure they remain as numbers - don’t add units e.g. Use: Engine Size (cc) | 1.2 NOT Engine size | 1.2cc 9/14/2018 The range of statistics is important - get some above and below budget.. Also the number of statistics is important - the more you have the better Ideas To Develop 2015 Enquiry 1 – Move to Devon Different towns (maybe 2/3) - sheet for each town, each town sheet has 10+ houses, different headings for different features of house Crime statistics?? Distance to… Colour scheme: each sheet towns colours – town logo?? Enquiry 2 – Going to Uni Different uni towns (maybe 2/3) - sheet for each town, each town sheet has 10+ houses for rent, different headings for different features of house, calculations to work out weekly rent Colour scheme: each sheet universities colours – uni logo?? Enquiry 4 – European Holiday (max 4 people) Different resorts (try resorts in different countries) (maybe 2/3) - sheet for each resort, each resort sheet has 10+ hotels, different headings for different features of hotel, calculations to work out PPM / PPW Crime statistics?? Trip Advisor reviews?? Whether Statistics??? Colour scheme: each sheet countries colours – country flag?? Enquiry 5 – Learning to drive Sheet for different cars maybe (10-20), statistics about each car MPG, BHP, Engine size, tax band, Sheet to compare prices of insurance and driving lessons with different providers Colour scheme: personal to your taste??

Formatting Cells and Worksheets 9/14/2018 Formatting Cells and Worksheets Several worksheets need to be used – each formatted appropriately with a house style and title. Cells within your spreadsheet with need to be formatted including: Formatted numbers correctly – decimals, text, percentage, dates Used alignment appropriately, Made good use of colour and shading, Used borders to compliment work. 5

Make Use of Common Formula 9/14/2018 Make Use of Common Formula These formulas need to be used: SUM() INT() COUNT(), ACOUNT() MAX(), MIN() AVERAGE(), MODE(), MEDIAN() RAND() SQUARE() IF() DATE(), NOW(), TODAY() LOOKUP(), VLOOKUP(), HLOOKUP() 6

9/14/2018 Other Facilities Use macros to speed up the input of data and production of results Visual basic forms to enter data Make use of graphs and charts to present findings Conditional formatting Relative and absolute cell referencing 3D Cell referencing 7

Use: Engine Size (cc) | 1.2 NOT Engine size | 1.2cc When formatting numbers ensure they remain as numbers - don’t add units e.g. Use: Engine Size (cc) | 1.2 NOT Engine size | 1.2cc 9/14/2018 The range of statistics is important - get some above and blow budget.. Also the number of statistics is important - the more you have the better What Next Find appropriate data to analyse in your spreadsheet Present the data in spreadsheet worksheets Use formatting to make it look nice Add simple formulas to summarise the data See website for spreadsheet examples 8
