10.2.6 Explain why the Magisterium is important for Catholics. (8) To answer this question: You should write a paragraph on how The Magisterium is the supreme authority for Catholics, telling them what to believe and how to behave. You should then write a paragraph on how The Magisterium can address issues that did not exist in the time of the apostles, for example same-sex partnerships. This is important as Catholics cannot look in the Bible to find answers to these issues. You should then write a paragraph on how the Magisterium is important because it provides clear guidelines for Catholics on what to believe and how to behave as Catholics in today’s world. You could then write a final paragraph showing how The Magisterium ensures that the teaching of the Church is updated but does not change the Apostolic Tradition, so that if Catholics follow it, they will not be led to believe or do things that are against the will of God. Remember your Quality of Written Communication will be assessed in your answer so be careful with your spelling, use sentences and paragraphs, use specialist vocabulary.
