Presentation transcript:

Welcome to Room 23! November 4, 2016 Language Arts Important Dates This week we continued with our theme, “How Does Heat Cause Change?” We continued practicing the comprehension strategy, determining importance and practiced with our own “just right books!” We re-read the story, Luisa’s Lab and discussed the important parts of a recipe. We heard from friends in the class how they conduct experiments at home, with you!  We also learned three new vocabulary words, fill, sign, freeze. Our high frequency words (HFW) this week are: need, that, two, children, came Please review these with your child at home. Word Study This week we learned and practiced with the short /u/ sound. Ask your child to sing the “Umbrella” song that we sing in class! We practiced adding and taking away letters to form new words with the short /u/ sound. We learned and practiced the –ut word family and students learned about other word families in their reading groups. We added new words to our word wall. Please practice these at home. Halloween Party & Parade! Math Writing Weekly Reports Don’t forget to ask your child about his/her weekly report. Your child should be able to explain why he/she received an N in a specific category because we talk about it often. Please sign and return this to school on Monday!! Reading Circle Tickets In your child’s home/school folder you will notice he/she brought home all of the papers from reading circle this week. Please review them with your child as they may not be able to read some of my notes on different worksheets, but it’s important for them to see so that they are aware of the expectation for next week. I understand the desire to want to go to a center right away, but some students are not completing the organizers to the best of their ability and I am noticing the same weekly pattern on some student’s organizers. Halloween Party & Parade! Thank you to everyone that could make it to the parade and/party this past Monday! I greatly appreciate all of the parents that gave up their time to volunteer and help in our class. The students had a blast! I finally got to see all of the creative costumes I had been hearing about and they were awesome!  Math This week we continued and ended Chapter 4: Subtraction Facts to 10. In this chapter students are learned basic subtraction facts up to 10 using strategies, such as the take-away concept, number bonds, using a number line, and counting back and on. This week we continued learning and practicing fact families and reviewed all of the strategies we’ve learned in this chapter. Please practice this at home with your child as some of the students are still struggling with this concept. Writing In writing, we started writing personal narratives aligned with the book, The Best Part of Me. Students began organizing their own personal narrative on what they think is the best part of them. Lunch Menu Next Week Monday: Chicken nuggets Tuesday: No School Wednesday: Hot ham & cheese on a bun Thursday: Soft taco w/ cheese Friday: French Bread Pizza (No B Lunches) Alternates for the week: B) Pizza Slice C) PBJ D) Tuna Salad Sandwich E) Taco Salad
