Introduction  Setting: Grandma Rose’s apartment and the neighborhood she lived in.  First Key Events: - Grandma Rose fell and bruised herself. -Harold had taken money from Londell James, a drug dealer. -Child Services had sent a letter to Grandma Rose regarding Harold, and they said that if no adult could take him in, then the state would take custody of him.

Protagonist/Antagonist  The protagonist of No Way Out is Harold Davis. He’s a freshman at Bluford High, and he takes desperate measures when his Grandma’s medical bills pile up.  The antagonist of No Way Out is Londell James. He’s a drug dealer that persuaded Harold to sell drugs and in return, he’ll get quick and easy money.

Central Conflict  Who’s Involved: Harold, Londell James, Cidny, Mr. Harris, Grandma Rose, and Jupiter are involved in the central conflict.  Problem: When Harold decides to get out of the drug dealing business, Londell refused to let him go as a delivery boy for him.  Possible Solutions: Harold could go the police.

Minor Characters  Cindy: She’s a very loyal friend to Harold, and he revealed that he’d had a crush on her, but she’d been in an abusive relationship, and when Harold thought no one knew what he’d been doing to get money for his grandmother, she knew.  Mr. Harris: Grandma’s neighbor that looked out for Grandma when she’d gotten injured, and he protected Harold from any danger.  Bug: He’s an eight year old boy that hung out with Londell, and he’s used in the story by him, which makes Harold sympathetic towards him.

CRITICS  This critic loved the book. He said that the book taught him a lesson, and that was to always take the positive route, because the streets aren’t safe, and those that care for you will be there for you through hard times. book-review-by-devante-bryant/ book-review-by-devante-bryant/  This book review says that everyone is affected when Harold started doing illegal things for Londell to get money for his Granmother, and how one day on the streets can go all wrong.

My Opinion  I absolutely loved this book. It’s one of my favorites, because it teaches a moral lesson, and that’s to always take the positive road into helping someone, and to take heed to what my elders have to say about life. I would recommend this book.
