Pentecost – Harvest Time! The church was established on the day of Pentecost, which was a Jewish feast of the firstfruits of the harvest. The kingdom is like sowing seed, letting it produce, and gathering the harvest (Mark 4:26-29). If good seed is sown, and the plants have grown, the time of harvest is near! (John 4:35-38). From its beginning the church was about the great harvest of the souls of men – let us labor in that harvest! The Day the Church was Born
How Do We Know When the Church was Established? We know the time frame (Acts 2:47; Matthew 16:18) We can calculate the year (Luke 3:23) We can determine the month and the day (John 1:29; 1 Cor. 5:7; Leviticus 23:15-16)
The Significance of the Church Beginning on Pentecost Pentecost was the feast of the early harvest (Leviticus 23:15; Exodus 34:22) The church was established on Pentecost (Acts 2:36-41, 47; Exodus 32:27-28; 1 Corinthians 10:6-7) All who became Christians were first-fruits of the harvest! (James 1:18)
