Lamp Breakage Issues

Have not: Determined how big of an issue it is. Different information on breakage from different lamp recyclers USEPA estimated 1.5 tons/year of Hg emissions – based on 2002 California DTS mercury report CA DTSC report estimated that 23% of total municipal waste discarded was from fluorescent lamps TCLP compliant lamps vs. amount of mercury emissions Anecdotal information from DTSC report that 25% of fluorescent tubes disposed are “non-hazardous”

Have not: Addressed how to prevent breakage in containers and during shipping. Most effective containment materials? Was the Brosseau study peer reviewed and published in a reputable journal? Better packaging in containers?

Other considerations: Shatter resistant lamps? Cost Recyclability
