Chicago is laid out like a grid

For Chicago.. - State Street runs North-South - Madison Street run East- West Any point on a nourth-south running street is North (N) or South (S) of Madion (0). Thus, 4700 N Rockwell St is north of Madison. The number tells you how far north to go. Any Point on an east-west street is Eat (E) or West (W) of State. 2500 W Leland is west of State St. The number tells you how far east or west to go

For the World.. Latitude runs east and west (like Madison) and Longitude runs north and south like State. Instead of blocks, latitude and longitude is broken down by degrees (35°W for example) The little circle ( ° ) means degrees.

For the World.. The Equator is 0° north or south. (Like Madison) The Prime Meridian is 0° east or west (Like State)

For the World.. Chicago is approximately 42°N Latitude and 88° West Latitude (Chicago, 41° 59' N 87° 54' W)
