V I S O N All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. HEBREWS 11:13-16 Before you animate the text, have the students do creative imagination: what does this picture communicate? In the discussion of the passage, talk about how we have our eyes to much focused on the immediate step before us. We need to be able to visualize a better place to be in the future. Admit that this is a fine line and a delicate balance in life.

Vision = Picture not a task What kind of picture of a better place do you envision in your mind in response to the situations to which you are drawn? Make sure you emphasize and clarify this. Most people describe visions as a series of tasks. It’s a picture of the better place you hope comes as a result of you successfully pursuing your life calling.

Vision DREAM CHALLENGE must be greater than the This is a chance to discuss how the vision may not be totally precise but it has to start somewhere. We have small laptops today because someone imagined that home computers were possible—even if their concept was too big. from 1954 Popular Mechanics

DAYDREAM P R E T E N D I NVENT T A K E T W O This is a wonderful section for stimulating vision. However, it may be to intuitive for you, if that is the case, delete it and create a discussion you feel more comfortable with. We all need to create our own “Imaginarium”. We will look at four ways to help us. I NVENT T A K E T W O

Daydream We need to make time to dream every day.

Look at the ordinary and see the extraordinary Daydreaming starts by looking beyond the ordinary to the extraordinary (DeWitt Jones, National Geographic photographer)

Daydream Look at the ordinary and see the extraordinary

Eliminate limitations for now (in your daydream universe there is no gravity) There will be plenty of people to put limitations on your dream, so don’t do it yourself. Because this is how innovative ideas can be discovered.

Creating your own action hero can help you discover what kind of impact you would like to make in the world (or universe ).

Invent Create new “tools” to achieve the dream Avoid the “already” toolshed Take Two Change your perspective This is a highly intuitive sequence that I as a astronomic scientist love. However, if it is too much for you, find something else to replace it. I have students imagine what they are seeing for each slide. I don’t give answers until it becomes obvious after several slides. But even then I keep shoving them to new perspectives. I will type in the notes on each slide what it is.

Here is dreams progress Here is dreams progress. You look at something and see a need for something better. You start to share your imagination and cast the dream in the minds of others so they will join you. Finally, you make it happen by finding the resources to make the dream a reality.

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. - Helen Keller A very thought provoking quote when you consider the source.

Our vision directly impact the needs and actions of our mission vision will keep us focused on the area of needs where we can have the most effective impact needs actions vision inspires and emboldens the actions that we actually take in our lives to live out our calling in response to the needs of the world vision P e r s o n a l M i action Read the end of the chapter in the book to understand the interactions U n i q u e D s g Our vision directly impact the needs and actions of our mission
