Leaders take extensible approaches Complete portal and content management application feature sets Partner ecosystems for enterprise software and hardware integrations Able to support a variety of IP video publishing use cases

Kaltura Open source platform supports internal video communication and external marketing use cases. Has many publishing features and a UI that matches what employees expect from consumer experiences today Online exchange has an impressive selection of apps and plug-ins to extend functionality. Scored lower than other Leaders in support for webcasting and for eCDNs Enterprise customers typically use Kaltura’s professional services to customize the platform to their needs.

Polycom Complete solution for webcasting and videoconference recording and streaming, including: Media capture appliances to simplify recording by synchronizing inputs Recording servers to capture and stream videoconferences Strong technology partner approach with connectors to Microsoft Lync and IBM Sametime, third-party eCDNs, and digital signage Polycom’s video portal application scored lower in some areas — namely player design, search features, and some user-generated content features.

Qumu Comprehensive support for webcasting and user- generated content with media capture appliances as well as webcam and screen capture recording features from its portal One of the early vendors to release speech search capabilities Comprehensive videoconferencing and CDN integration support Many customers use Qumu to enable live video distribution, optionally by deploying its VideoNet caching appliances on their network. Unlike other vendors, can support mobile delivery both through the browser and through native apps

VBrick Complete end-to-end hardware solution comprising encoders and media capture appliances, video caching and redistribution appliances, and digital signage Excellent support for IPTV and videoconferencing integration with the ability to live stream and record Microsoft Lync sessions Supports webcasting and user-generated content Offers a separate online video platform customers can leverage in a hybrid strategy to publish content inside and outside the firewall At present, the two video platforms have different codebases. Also lost points in some areas like reporting and analytics — VBrick’s SW doesn’t yet have the same track record as its HW business

Sonic Foundry Strong webcasting features with simplified operation and turnkey functionality of media recording appliances to synchronize content Rich playback experience for viewers Unique in providing OCR to automatically index the text in slides, which makes it easy to search for specific webcast content Is focused now on becoming more multipurpose — has added a desktop recorder feature to support user-generated content uploads without its media recording appliances Lags in some areas like support for SharePoint integration and social capabilities

Ignite Technologies SaaS solution to set up a peering and/or push model for content distribution Customers use the platform not only to deliver video but also to distribute marketing collateral and even software updates. Unique ability to deliver proactive notifications (like Toast) to employees’ desktops Lacks some features in leading video platforms like support for webcasting and other forms of direct recording

Cisco Part of the Cisco “Capture, Transform, Share” video platform: TelePresence Content Server (TCS) to record meetings Cisco MXE 3500 to transcode video content Pulse Video Analytics software to add speech search Integration with the Cisco ECDS for distribution The best speech technology in a video platform, allowing users to navigate videos rather than sit through hourlong recordings Lags leading video platforms in SharePoint integration, webcasting features, and cloud support Plans to improve integrations with the WebEx suite of products and enhance its live webcasting

Kontiki Focused on providing an advanced software- based content delivery engine, offering customers complete visibility and control over their network Includes a stream testing tool for customers to simulate live video distribution on their network (with no impact on users) Has an out-of-the-box video portal application but is focused on developing as many hooks as possible into: Intranet portals (SharePoint) Webcasting applications (InterCall, ON24, Thomson Reuters) Social applications (NewsGator and Chatter) Videoconferencing (Polycom) and digital signage (Scala)

Best practices for vendor selection Bring the right people to the table. Choose a platform that can be customized to the idiosyncrasies of your environment. Pick a vendor who can drive the process if necessary. Enterprise video
