7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology THEY EMBRACE CHANGE. The world hates the word change, but change has brought about innovation and progress.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology Habit #2: THEY ALWAYS START WITH THE WHY. Technology for technology sake is dangerous. Highly effective teachers who use technology always have a reason for the new tools. Whether it is to save time, to improve learning, or to help with planning, highly effective teachers start out with the why.

Why Google Docs? The “Lil Randy” Story With this implementation, my hope is you can still keep teaching and not let one student who made poor choices absorb all of your time and energy.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology Habit #2: THEY ARE MALLABLE AND CAN EASILY ADAPT. Technology is constantly changing and the classroom environment will look drastically different in 2-years.

Changes to Referral System Basic definitions: Intervention Log (AKA: The Low-Level Referral) Office Referral (AKA: 3 Strikes! You’re Out!) Two Points of Access: From your iPad by making an icon for the website From your teacher computer by utilizing the shortcut on your desktop

Google Doc Referral Form Basics Fill out the appropriate form. Click “Submit.” A filled-in form will be sent to your Inbox for your records. Suggestions: ~Save it to a folder on your teacher computer for your reference ~Make changes to entry ~E-mail to a parent (email addresses can be accessed in ARIES)

Virtual Tour https://sites.google.com/a/valverde.edu/rvhs-online- referrals/ On your desktop, please go to the shortcut and click on one of the Intervention Logs and fill out a form for “Lil Randy.”

Creating an Icon on the iPad Click the link sent in the email this morning. Since you are already logged into Google Docs, you should go to the “RVHS Google Doc Referral” webpage

Being icon-ic! Click on “Add to Home Screen” and name the icon. This should create a shortcut on your iPad home screen to the referral form home page.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology Habit #4: THEY SHARE, SHARE, AND SHARE SOME MORE. Technology opens up the door to collaboration school-wide. Knowledge is power and this program helps everyone.

We now have DATA!

Virtual Tour of Intervention Logs DATA: Go to 10th Grade Intervention Log Spreadsheet. At the top, click “Form” and select “Show summary of responses.” SEARCHING STUDENTS: We can look up students by last name and see the intervention log entries for other teachers on “Lil Randy."

Trouble Shooting Not being able to log-in to Google Docs Email Gina Rye and ask for your account to be reset. Getting a message that requests that the owner shares the page or form You are logged into Google Docs on another Gmail account. Log out of that Gmail account and log in with your Val Verde Google Doc account.

Trouble Shooting Your Intervention Log spreadsheet is blank. At the bottom of the page, click “Form Responses” to see previous entries

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology Habit #5: THEY THINK WIN-WIN-WIN. Technology cannot work properly if there is not buy in.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology Habit #7: THEY ACTIVELY CARE. Highly effective teachers who use technology don’t just care. They actively care, and they use technology not only to make their job better, but because it allows them to make a bigger impact.
