About PGVCL Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has been restricted into six companies. One generation (GSECL) , one transmission (GETCO) and four distribution companies namely PGVCL, UGVCL, DGVCL and MGVCL. Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited is one of the company started functioning from 1st April,2005 and serving in the areas of Saurashtra and Kutch regions. Feeding electricity in 8 districts of Gujarat namely Rajkot, Jamnagar,Junagadh,Porbandar,Bhuj,Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Amreli covering total 83 talukas.

Background of Study It was to analyze the broad trends in the utilization of power among farmers under the jurisdiction of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL). It was intended to examine whether the farmers who do not have authorized power connection for agricultural purposes tend to illegally use power thus leading to power scarcity or not.

Objective of Study To closely observe the operations of GIDR in general and operations of Energy Conservation department in specific. To gain experience in energy conservation field and understand it practically. To enhance our management skills other then theories we learnt in books.

Methodology Used Primary Data – Our team members did household survey to find the current scenario of electricity under PGVCL districts. Methods used for collecting data were: Personal Observation. Discussion with the farmers. Interviews. (cont’d)

Secondary Data – During my study, I was assigned to make many assignments and reports given to me by my supervisor. Methods used to collect data were: Annual Reports of Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission. GIDR Brochure. Circulars and Newsletters. Journals and Newspapers. Internet.

Data Tabulation and Analysis ACTUAL DISTRIBUTION LOSSES IN DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS FOR THE YEAR (2008-09) Name of Discoms Estimated Loss in MYT order Actual Loss Uttar Gujarat Vij Co. Observation and Learnings Observation: During my study, I observed that in current financial year (2012-13) there were 4.6 lakhs pending application seeking electricity connection in farm sector and the government planned to provide 1 lakh connection to rural areas but provided just 48,435 connections sanctioned by PGVCL so far. Learnings: During my study, I got an opportunity to learn about team dynamics and its various roles of working in an organization. (cont’d)

With these I would like to say that organization working and cultural environment was really a nice experience for me where there was no bias between people, everybody feels free to take initiative and help each other. Learning about SPSS software, a decision making tool used by researchers to carry out results from long processed data was a great opportunity for me and involvement of taking initiative regarding any work assigned to me motivated me to do well throughout my internship.
