What We Offer Building Bridges Workshop 9/14/2018 What We Offer Building Bridges Workshop Building Bridges: Strengthening Leadership for Diverse Communities will allow you to gain self-awareness, stretch beyond your comfort zone, and gain new understanding. The unique workshop is interactive, experiential, and high energy. Participants are both teachers and learners. The full workshop lasts approximately six hours, during which time participants engage in small group and large group discussions. In this workshop, you will:  Celebrate similarities and differences. Identify misinformation about other groups. Identify and heal from internalized oppression. Claim pride in your own group identities. Gain empowerment by learning ways to challenge bigoted comments and actions.  If you have time – consider a quick activity to give an example of some things we do such as “Up Downs” or “Pairs” Workshop Objectives:   The goal of Building Bridges is to mobilize participants to carry the message of acceptance and inclusion to others. This unique workshop - interactive, experiential, and high energy - allows you to gain self-awareness, stretch beyond your comfort zone, and gain new understanding. During this six-hour workshop (that can be taken in one all day or two 3-hour sessions), participants engage in small and large group discussions and activities led by trained facilitators. Participants of the Building Bridges Workshops are both contributing teachers and willing learners. In this workshop, participants will: Claim pride in one’s own group identities. Identify the information and misinformation we have learned about ourselves and other groups. Gain empowerment by learning ways to challenge bigoted comments and actions.  We invite and encourage you to participate in this growth-filled, skill-based uplifting personal development experience.

What We Offer Building Bridges: Leading Diverse Groups Through Conflict NCBI has developed a model for conflict resolution. Teaches participants skills to handle tough interpersonal and intergroup conflicts. Examines controversial issues through a positive process. Participants learn to reframe controversial issues into a context where all parties are able to work toward a common solution. This model is taught in the Building Bridges: Leading Diverse Groups Through Conflict workshop.

What We Offer: NCBI Community Response: Educate, Empower, and Develop (CREED) What NCBI Can Do NCBI can serve as an additional resource on campus in regards to bias-related crisis, controversy, and community issues. (see NCBI responses on next page) The issue may be in its early stages and not quite a crisis or urgent yet; subsequently, NCBI’s response may be more proactive as opposed to reactive. Serve as a resource to identify ‘hot spots’ – a preventative or monitoring function What NCBI Cannot Do NCBI is a resource, not first responder who coordinates the university’s response NCBI does not take the place of primary responders that exist on campus and their responsibilities (e.g., Campus Police, Office of Diversity & African American Affairs, Counseling Center, University Housing, GLBT Center, etc.)

We take workshop requests for specific departments or units for a minimum of 15 participants (we ask for a minimum 30 days notification) We can sometimes tailor our presentations to meet your department needs.
